Urogynecology is dedicated to the treatment of women with pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence, prolapse (bulging or falling) of the vagina, bladder and/or the uterus. At Visionary Centre for Women, our goal is to help women to understand their condition and their symptoms and to be able to focus on a minimally-invasive treatment option that best suits your comfort level and lifestyle.
Advanced Diagnostic Tools for Urodynamic Testing
Urodynamic testing is a procedure done in our office. This is an important test when assessing incontinence or before lifting the vagina with severe prolapse. Urodynamic testing looks at how well the bladder, sphincters, and urethra are storing and releasing urine. Most urodynamic tests focus on the bladder’s ability to hold urine and fully empty. Urodynamic tests can also see if the bladder is contracting with or without control, which can cause leaking.
Urodynamic testing is also done to see how the bladder may act & work after treatment of pelvic organ prolapse.
Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy is a way to look at the inside of your bladder with a camera. Numbing gel maybe placed in the urethra, which is the tube that connects your bladder and the outside. After this, a tiny telescope is passed into the bladder. Sterile fluid is then used to fill the bladder, so that your doctor can see inside. This allows your doctor to make sure that there are no abnormalities which might be causing your bladder symptoms such as stones, tumors or inflammation. The testing should not be painful. The test generally takes between 10 and 30 minutes. You will know the results immediately after the test.
Ultrasound
Depending on your condition, a pelvic and/or kidney ultrasound may be recommended to evaluate the structure of your uterus, ovaries and/or kidneys.
