Often, when someone desires revisions of a prior labiaplasty, it is a request to create symmetry from uneven or irregular edges, or as a desire to remove more tissue than was removed initially.
Labiaplasty is sometimes being offered by obgyns or other surgeon with lack of or no experience & specialty training which is well-meaning but produces suboptimal results
Revision consults have steadily increased as a part of my referral practice over the past 4 years as more surgeons proceed to perform labiaplasty surgery without the knowledge, proper training and experience in intimate aesthetic surgery. Labiaplasty is sometimes being offered by obgyns or other surgeon with lack of or no experience & specialty training which is well-meaning but produces suboptimal results. REMEMBER to ask about advanced specialty training and experience when researching for a surgeon to do this very personal procedure.
General Plastic Surgeons have begun adding this as a procedure. This is not their main area of expertise nor do they do it very often. Their focus is on face, breast, tummy tucks, etc. This is a set up for unsatisfactory results. I had one plastic surgeon send their patient over to me after they did labiaplasty because they felt uncomfortable looking at the results after the procedure was done. The vaginal area is not their expertise!
Some patients have an excellent labiaplasty performed but do too much walking (friction against new sutures and fragile skin) or exercise in the 1st few weeks after surgery. This is another reason a revision might need to be done.
